A warmer and drier climate in the west has led the towns around Lake Tahoe to start using colorful drone light shows in place of fireworks. Drones provide a more elaborate overhead presentation, and are a safer alternative to pyrotechnics.
Hundreds of illuminated drones will fly in formation to produce visuals and 3-D patterns in the sky. These drones create intricate designs that are pre-programmed into their software.
Fireworks can be unpredictable, and accidents can happen, causing injuries or property damage. Drones, on the other hand, are controlled remotely and can be programmed to follow strict safety protocols.
Drones do not release harmful chemicals into the air like fireworks. Fire safety is the primary reason most of the 4th of July events around Lake Tahoe will be drone shows.
This year, we are excited to see the various areas around Lake Tahoe continue with the July 4th traditions.
Tahoe City | July 4th
The free drone light show will take place on Commons Beach on July 4th. The light show will be orchestrated to music, and over 100 drones will take to the air directly over Lake Tahoe.
Brought to you in part, by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. They help pay for the show, which is significantly more expensive than traditional fireworks. They are still looking for additional support to bring this show to life so contact them if you'd like to participate.
The drone light show will be partly funded by grants, sponsorships, and donations from generous organizations and individuals, like you. Please help our efforts to bring July 4 BACK to Tahoe City!
